Dell Unveils Linux Systems With Ubuntu 7.04
Dell offers what many Linux enthusiasts want -- great Dell products with popular Linux Ubuntu open-source software for work and play.
Dell today made it official, unveiling three consumer systems with the Ubuntu 7.04 Linux distribution factory installed.
- XPS 410n and
- Dimension E520n desktops
- Inspiron E1505n notebook
The enthusiasm from customers who challenged Dell to deliver a consumer Linux solution have been matched within Dell and Canonical, the sponsor of Ubuntu, by a team of dedicated professionals who made this happen in a phenomenally short period of time.
Ubuntu is a open source community developed operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. Since its launch in October 2004 Ubuntu has become one of the most highly regarded Linux distributions with millions of users around the world.
Whether it is used in the home, at school or in an office Ubuntu contains all the applications needed, from word processing and email applications, to web server software and programming tools. Ubuntu will always be free to download, free to use and free to distribute to others. With these goals in mind, Ubuntu aims to be the most widely used Linux system, and is the centre of a global open source software ecosystem.
The Ubuntu Promise - Ubuntu will always be free of charge, including enterprise releases and security updates. Ubuntu comes with full commercial support from Canonical and hundreds of companies around the world. Ubuntu includes the very best translations and accessibility infrastructure that the free software community has to offer. Ubuntu CDs contain only free software applications; we encourage you to use free and open source software, improve it and pass it on.
With no software licensing costs associated with Ubuntu, the base price for each system is competitively priced and fully configured. Hardware support is available through normal Dell support channels, along with the Basic software support on a variety of dedicated Web sites and Linux forums. Customers can also choose service upgrades from Canonical, including: 30-day Get Started, One-year Basic and One-Year Standard. More information on Canonical services is available at www.ubuntu.com.
MVI Solutions has long been a supporter of free open source use of Linux and programs supported by the open source community. "MVI feels that this trend to Linux will continue to grow making software development on the Linux platform easier and more powerful." say Jeff Douglas President www.MVIsolutions.com
